Design Tips

Our designers have lots of experience on the job and through continuing education. We want to educate and empower our clients to be master designers in their daily lives to live to their fullest design potential (and just have a good time!). Not everything needs the touch of a designer, however we do appreciate your asking for help. The design tips we pass on are simple everyday tips that you can implement in your life and home without calling us for an appointment. But if you find you do not have the time and want us to do it for you, of course we will!

Use food as art in your next design project

Design inspiration comes from everything and everywhere. From a far fetched imagination to the everyday mundane. Designers see beauty in many different ways. Take food for example. The bold and vibrant colors of fruits and vegetables are inspirations for color palettes. The various shapes and textures lend to the design of materials and furniture. Another [...]

Repurpose household items into great design!

We all know that every object has more than one function. As a child our mom showed us how to transform a milk carton into a bird feeder. We used paper towel tubes as telescopes and so much more. Just because we have grown up doesn’t mean we can’t still think outside the box and [...]

Contentment through Colorful Area Rugs

Emma Gardner states, “There are certain color combinations that are naturally appealing to us as human beings; blue and gold, water and sunlight, colors found in nature that inspire a visceral reaction. There is something almost universally appealing and timeless, too about monochromatic schemes with a pop of the complimentary color”.  This sentiment creates long [...]

Decorating a Child’s Room with Wall Decals

Decorating a room can be an expensive venture, lending those to purchase classic basics and change accessories and paint colors more often.  So when a child joins a family’s home, the idea of decorating a nursery or child’s room can be daunting.  Children grow out of likes and phases so fast and often that it [...]

Decorating with Darker, Bolder Paint Colors

I receive many calls asking for a paint color consultation.  With the vast color choices on the market there is no wonder why individuals are overwhelmed by all the colors to choose from.  Some people like to jump right into a bold, rich color and some are more shy and prefer lighter, more washed out [...]

Wooden Pendants add unexpected texture to any space

Every great interior needs 4 design principles: Color, Texture, Pattern and Shine. Lighting most often gives the “shine” and “color” to a room but never addresses the remaining two principles of design. What about a light fixture that addresses texture? In a design trend that favors suble contrasts, and minimal color schemes, these woven wood [...]

This year, design not only your interior, but also yourself!

Though I practice interior design on a daily basis, I still enjoy fashion and jewlery design. And if you know me, then you know I personally prefer things vintage. For example these pretty brass stamped earrings. They are a “go-with-anything” earring that can be rocked with jeans and a t-shirt or a beautiful dress. I [...]

Finally, a Modern Rocking Chair!

For all of those who have spent long sleepless nights rocking a crying hungry baby to sleep, I’m talking to you today. After designing two nurseries for my own babies and countless others for clients and friends, I have never found a good looking rocking chair that suits budget, style and function. Until today. Crate [...]

Temporary Wallpaper for the commitment phobic

Pink Bathrooms are back in Vogue

Everyone has seen a carnation pink bathroom either in their Grandma’s house or in their parents home before it was remodeled. Pink, Robin’s Egg Blue and Avocado Green were the mid-century ”it” colors.  Cast iron bathtubs, 4×4″ wall and floor tile and sinks were cast in these colors making them unforgettable.  The homeowner either liked the decor or hated [...]
