Decorating with Darker, Bolder Paint Colors

I receive many calls asking for a paint color consultation.  With the vast color choices on the market there is no wonder why individuals are overwhelmed by all the colors to choose from.  Some people like to jump right into a bold, rich color and some are more shy and prefer lighter, more washed out [...]

Pink Bathrooms are back in Vogue

Everyone has seen a carnation pink bathroom either in their Grandma’s house or in their parents home before it was remodeled. Pink, Robin’s Egg Blue and Avocado Green were the mid-century ”it” colors.  Cast iron bathtubs, 4×4″ wall and floor tile and sinks were cast in these colors making them unforgettable.  The homeowner either liked the decor or hated [...]

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) recently conducted an informal poll of remodeling customers that returned encouraging results.  When asked what aspects of a remodel determine their satisfaction with the project, 49 percent responded that design and outcome are the greatest determinants. 22 percent indicated that adequately having their needs met dictates project satisfaction, [...]

Mixing the old with the new

Forget throwing away grandma’s old antique mirror, give it a new life! Using antiques in your new home design is a great way to achieve any look you want. Antiques represent relics of the past, by mixing them with our modern lifestyle they remind us of how far we have come. You can change the [...]

Kitchens and Baths still remain most desirable

There’s a reason why, even in this economy, the show goes on for kitchens and baths. They remain tantalizing objects of desire for most of us. And they still attract discretionary spending when homeowners feel the need to upgrade.

Newsworthy Wallpaper

No surprise that the latest wallpaper sample to cross my desk generated a smile. It’s called Newsworthy, and it’s made from strips of newspaper that have been hand-loomed with nylon thread.

The effect is clever — instantly identifiable up close, but pleasantly abstract from afar. The wallpaper has an earthy, vintage quality to it — it is an alternative to grass cloth.

What happens to all the “stuff” removed from a remodel?

Have you ever seen a T.V. show or a neighbor’s house being remodeled and they replace cabinetry, plumbing and carpet with new? Did you ever wonder where it all goes? Probably to the landfill you might have thought. More and more designers and contractors are being conscientious with what they remove and how it is disposed of.
